Britney Spears Tested For Mental Competency And Fails

Britney Spears, currently hospitalized for mental evaluation, is to be examined by a court-appointed psychiatrist to determine if she even understands the legal proceedings surrounding her, a judge ruled on today in Los Angeles.
Los Angeles Superior Court Commissioner Scott Gordon ordered that the psychiatrist file a report on Spears’ mental condition by February 13, 2008, the day before a hearing to decide if and/or how much longer her assets should remain under the temporary control of her father Jamie Spears and his Attorney, Andrew Wallet.
Gordon also upheld a restraining order against Spears’ sometime-assistant, Sam Lutfi, forbidding him from any contact with her, including telephone, texts messages and e-mail. It is rumored that the 2 are still in contact regardless, and Gordon wishes to ‘put a stop to it’.
The child custody case has been put on hold until her mental issues can be assesed completely.
Spears was taken to UCLA Medical Center in an ambulance for a 72-hour mental evaluation last week as her behavior grew increasingly erratic. That stay has since been extended to two weeks.
Her father, Jamie Spears, and attorney Andrew Wallet were granted conservatorship, or control of her assets, including her houses, money and vehicles. Gordon said that ruling would remain in place until further proceedings, but he rejected a bid by the conservators to fire her defense attorneys.
